Fabiani Men Canal Walk: A Looming Expiration

Fabiani Men Canal Walk is not SUITable for consumption.

As a premium brand, the bar is set high and you expect Fabiani to keep up, instead the Canal Walk store has decided to limbo underneath it.

From outside the store, one could already see that the state of the store was horrifying. The rails closest to the door were untidy. It looked like an overstuffed closet and that doesn’t even include the clothes that were on the floor underneath it. In every nook and cranny one could see piles of clothes as if taking them out of plain sight was a solution to the problem.

There was only one sales assistant in the store and she was barely keeping her head above water. Somewhere between assisting customers, folding clothes and getting the store to an acceptable standard, she forgot that in a premium store one has to be style savvy too.

Upon receiving assistance was when I realized that everything that the sales assistant knew about men’s fashion she had learned in the four walls of Fabiani Canal Walk, which effectively means she can only dress “the Fabiani man”. This leaves every other customer who doesn’t ascribe to this aesthetic but wants the product, destitute.

Above this, if you’re plus sized then Fabiani Canal Walk is a no-go zone. They have no sense of how to dress a plus sized person – from colour combination to prints, cuts and item choice – nothing is appropriate.

The point of sale was in the same disastrous state as the rest of the store. There were piles of boxes and clothes scattered behind the counter and if that is the last impression one gets before exiting, then it is a very sad last impression.

Fabiani Canal Walk has let the premium standard slip. Everything about this store has reached its best before and if things continue the way they are now, it is certain that the expiry date is looming.
